Dear Eric,
With honest respect to Charles, who worked very hard for UWN in its early days, his declaration of doom for the newspaper is not accurate. UWN is thriving, has a large and stable readership of senior higher education readers (see http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/UNIVERSITYWORLDNEWS.com) and has been going from strength to strength. Just this weekend the Unesco WCHE web site finally went live, with UWN as official media partner.

We recently published and have been successfully selling an ebook.

University World News went into publication without a proper business plan and without sufficient working capital (I should know I was there at the founding and spent huge amounts of time futilely arguing with them, as well as doing many hours of unpaid work). After 6 months, I knew they were not going to make a go of it. It looks to be defunct now–when I do search links to its articles are now blank. Perhaps the Ford-foundation-sponsored African edition is still going–if so, good luck to them.
