Dear Eric,
With honest respect to Charles, who worked very hard for UWN in its early days, his declaration of doom for the newspaper is not accurate. UWN is thriving, has a large and stable readership of senior higher education readers (see http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/UNIVERSITYWORLDNEWS.com) and has been going from strength to strength. Just this weekend the Unesco WCHE web site finally went live, with UWN as official media partner.
http://www.unesco.org/en/wche2009/partners-and-sponsors/
UWN's specialist and comprehensive coverage has been increasing an size and scope since our launch.
We recently published and have been successfully selling an ebook.
This has been achieved by a publication that was founded by higher education writers from around the world, who have supported and developed a well-regarded publication with their money, time and expertise. It is a publication that we are all very proud to be associated with.
I recommend that all your readers check out http://www.universityworldnews.com and become registered readers - we'll send you a weekly email bulletin of the latest publications - and our archive copy is all available (with fully working links!) for free.
Best wishes to you all.

University World News went into publication without a proper business plan and without sufficient working capital (I should know I was there at the founding and spent huge amounts of time futilely arguing with them, as well as doing many hours of unpaid work). After 6 months, I knew they were not going to make a go of it. It looks to be defunct now--when I do search links to its articles are now blank. Perhaps the Ford-foundation-sponsored African edition is still going--if so, good luck to them.

Hey Eric, thanks for the alert. I took a look and it seems promising though a few kinks need to be worked out, I think. Thanks again!
